Mother, writer, cookbook author; world traveler limited only by funds and time and a large hairy dog; food-blogger and mad keen cook; chocolate aficionado, owl watcher, and serious outdoor activity enthusiast – I live on the beautiful northern shore of Lake Ontario in historic Kingston.
I was born on an overseas business trip.
By the time I was school-aged I had lived in three countries on two continents. My roots are in the rugged north of England – in Yorkshire where I spent my formative years before moving to Canada. Later still I moved to Australia – then back to Canada – then back to Australia – etc…. before finally calling Kingston home.
For as long as I can remember – I’ve loved being in the kitchen. One of my earliest memories is being in my grandfather’s ancient Yorkshire kitchen and rolling out the pastry for jam tarts. I was three years old. I’ve had an enduring love affair with food and history ever since.
By day I’m an employee at Queen’s University and by night – a freelance writer. In the rest of my life, I’m mother to two lovely girls and two needy animals, a big scruffy diva of a dog and a cranky old Siamese cat. I love almost everything outdoorsy though less so in winter when I try to catch up on reading, knitting, and Netflix. I’m partial to really good milk chocolate, well-steeped tea, the colour purple, British films, the night sky, and owls.
Many of the recipes on this blog can be found in my book, A Taste of Wintergreen. (Wintergreen Studios is an off-grid, eco-retreat located on the Canadian Shield in south-eastern Ontario.) I favour tasty, simple, healthy cooking with a focus on fresh, local, and organic ingredients where possible. I don’t believe in spending all day in the kitchen. I like short, sweet recipes for delicious, simple, healthy, real food – with occasional lapses into chocolate lunacy and the odd cocktail.
Follow me to see what’s new in my kitchen – I’d love the pleasure of your company. Lindy
