Bio

kingstonharbour31

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved being in the kitchen. One of my earliest memories is of being with my grandfather in his ancient Yorkshire kitchen, rolling out the pastry for jam tarts. I was three years old. There, in my grandfather’s kitchen, I came to know love. I’ve had an enduring love affair with food and history ever since.

I was born on an overseas business trip.  By the time I was school-aged I had lived in three countries on two continents. My roots are in the rugged north of England, in Yorkshire, where I spent my formative years before moving to Canada.

Later still I moved to Australia – then back to Canada – and back to Australia three times in all, before finally calling Ontario home. I’ve spent far too much of my life moving between cities, countries, and continents – always searching. Always missing the people and places left behind. Trying to settle down, never quite succeeding.

In the rest of my life, I’m a mother, feminist, food writer, owl watcher, mad keen walker, and serious outdoor enthusiast. I live along the beautiful north shore of Lake Ontario.

You can find my writing bio under the heading, Books & Publications.

Thanks for visiting.

  1. I have just joined the Wintergreen blog as, I too, love food and cooking. I also enjoy the loons in eastern Ontario, specifically, at 30 Island Lake off Westport Road. I look forward to our association. Cheers

    1. Thank you – that’s so generous of you. I also love your blog and am enjoying your Alaskan life…..

  2. Glad you liked one of my posts – it means I found your blog, so thank you, another fine blog to follow! I’m new to blogging, so it is still a bit of a tentative experience for me, but love your sentiments (including the fact we share the same reasons for running – calorie burning – and personal challenge too, of course). Tracey.

  3. Hi there! I’m Sue, and I’m from SlimKicker, a fitness/diet app and website. I saw your blog yesterday and it captured my interest!

I was wondering if we can do a giveaway for your blog readers?

Our website basically turns people’s fitness/diet goals into a level up game with challenges such as quitting soda for a week. We’re looking for new challenge ideas, so was thinking of holding a contest where your readers leave a comment on a health challenge idea + sign up on our site

We’ll pick our favorite challenge idea, use it on our site, and give the winner either a free digital health scale, slow cooker, or digital heart monitor. We’ve done many giveaways for bloggers in the past – you can google ‘SlimKicker giveaway’ to see. I also encourage you to sign up for our site to see what we’re about too 🙂

Let me know if you’re interested! You can email me back at sue.zheng (at) slimkicker (dot) com.

    Best,
    Sue

  4. Hi Lindy! Just discovered your blog and so glad! Many wonderful recipes and nice pics! And I love simple and quick recipes, as healthy))

    Cheers,
    Mila

    1. Hi Mila – Thank you! Looking forward to your blog too – but am on dial-up for a few days (visiting my mother!). I have to drink wine for patience while waiting for things to download… 😉

  5. You blog is beautiful Lindy! I am looking forward to trying some of the recipes. Thank you for your visit this afternoon, we all had a very good time.

  6. You have created such a wonderful blog Lindy. I wish I had more time to check it out, but need to cease my internet activities for some months of intense work :/ Hope to be reading it later this winter though!

    1. Thank you – that’s so generous of you. And I totally understand the need for some periods of intense work. I hope it all goes well. Look forward to following you and seeing more of you when you get through your next couple of months!

    1. Hello Badgerchenist! How did I miss this – just found your comment and followed your blog. Thanks for the nomination and for finding me! Can’t wait to read about hitching a ride on the back trails of Wisconsin!

  7. Lovely blog site. Your book looks intriguing as well. Somehow, I accidentally erased your comment(and my reply) from my “about” page; not quite sure how but I didn’t mean to. Look forward to sharing recipes and stories if you check back again.

What kind of dog do you have? From the photo, her looks similar to my first dog’s fur (Buffy). She looks pretty cuddly; no diva evident from that photo.

    1. Hi Stacey! I’ll see if I cannot resurrect the comment. My dog Lola is a golden doodle. She’s a darling. She’s my third daughter (the other two are the two-legged variety). I can’t imagine having two Lolas in my kitchen though – my kitchen is TINY – and my dog is one big fluffy, shaggy, boisterous character who loves, loves, loves to ‘help’ in the kitchen!

  8. Thanks. I was able to troubleshoot myself; silly me. Lola is adorable and I can imagine has big personality. My two four-leggers are eager to “help” too but one of them (Ginger) is good about staying on her orange square, most of the time.

  9. Your have an interesting story and I’m sure a fascinating outlook on life after spending so much time in different areas of the world. Thank you for sharing.

    1. Thank you and I’m so sorry I’m only finding this comment now – something going amiss with my notifications. Hope to join Fiesta Friday again soon – and will watch for you there! 😉

  10. How lovely to ‘meet’ you via Fiesta Friday. I used to live in Winnipeg in my teens and early 20’s – 10 winters is how I refer to that period! My mum and brother now live in Toronto and I live in the UK, London. Look forward to reading more of your blog once my Fiesta Friday duties as co-host are over!

  11. Hello Lindy, and thanks for stopping by my humble little blog. I hope you find some useful information. 🙂
Growing up in Belleville, I’m VERY familiar with your current neck of the woods as well … sadly, my upbringing wasn’t a cool sounding as yours 🙂
I look forward to reading more from you.
    Stay hungry 🙂
